Fourni Island Greece
|
HISTORY
There are some small
islands lying between Icaria and Samos with a lacy
coastline that few people know about. These are Fourni,
all of them together, Left is the leeward Chrysomilia
and right the small island of Thymaina. Before you is
Fournoi, the picturesque little harbour with about 1,000
inhabitants, most of them fishermen. This is a fantastic
place to relax and enjoy the sea. |

Be satisfied with a simple
room and a fish-tavern. It is enough if you like to
spend the evening at a cafe talking to the fishermen of
Fourni. Fourni lies between Icaria, Samos and Patmos.
They have an area of 40 sq. km. and a coastline of 125
km. They are connected to Ayios Kirykos, which is 11
nautical miles away, both by a small, local boat and by
a ferry boat which goes from Piraeus to the Cyclades,
Icaria, Fourni and Sam os. There are no cars on the
island. |

SIGHTSEEING
The things to see on
Fourni are its magnificent bays, many of which have
small harbours. On the same island there is also the
leeward bay of Chrysomilia with a small village. On the
neighbouring island of Thymena is a small fishing
village with the same name. The third little island of
Ayios Minas lies to the east and is uninhabited. |
